Meet Ava

This darling little 2 yr old dachshund (she will be 3 this fall) has sadly been through a lot for her age.  Ava was recently released from a commercial breeding facility.  She came to us so covered in filth, we couldn't see how pretty her red dapple coat was.  She had a huge cyst on her foot (and her feet were so terribly splayed from living on wire for her first 2 years), her eyes and teeth were a mess, even her sweet little nose was crooked...she just looked like she had lived a long life in those first 2 years. You could tell she didn't trust humans, they had treated her so poorly.

After her bath, that filthy red coat turned beautifully soft and shiny.  Our vets treated Ava for everything that ailed her and we promised this little girl she would never have to have another litter of puppies again.  We promised she would never have to live on wire, outside in the dirt and dust and heat and cold.  From now on, she will live in a loving home with soft blankets to bury her crooked little nose in and people that will love and care for her forever.

Ava is only 2, but her foster says she has an "old soul."  She will need a patient home willing to take the time to build trust. She will need a calm, quiet home with no children as Ava startles easily at noise and movements.  She kennels well and is starting to pick up on potty training.  She does not like going outside, but is learning the quicker she does her business, the sooner she gets to come in.  Ava will need a securely fenced yard for her safety. Ava's favorite thing is to snuggle up next to her foster in the chair and tuck her nose in a nice soft blanket. It's probably the first time she's ever felt safe in her lifetime. She is starting to play with toys and has just started to show a bit of a mischievous side.  She gets along fine with her fellow foster pups, but doesn't interact with them a lot.  She prefers to play by herself or be with her foster.

This sweet girl will need time and patience, but she is starting to come out of her shell and show who she really is on the inside.

Suggested adoption donation for Ava is a minimum of $400 and goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our rescue dogs. Wag N Train Terrier Rescue adopts to other geographical areas as long as we can find a local volunteer to perform the courtesy home visit, and requires the adopter to travel to Omaha, NE to pick up their newly adopted dog. We do not arrange transport, or fly our rescue dogs without a "pet nanny". A securely fenced yard is necessary to adopt one of our terriers. Please note: invisible or underground fencing is not considered secure or appropriate containment for terriers.
